Questions as Independents dominate Rukungiri parliamentary seats nomination exercise.

Rukungiri – Questions are increasing in Rukungiri district as residents ask themselves as to why independent candidates have dominated the nationwide exercise of nominating members of parliament wishing to represent Rukungiri people in the 12th parliament of Uganda.

  A total of 16 candidates wishing to represent people of Rukungiri district in Uganda’s parliament have today been officially and duly nominated on the 1st day of the nomination exercise which is ending tomorrow 23rd.0ct.2025.

The nomination exercise started at 9:00 am at Rukungiri district headquarters in the council hall left a total of 16 candidates duly nominated to contest as Members of Parliament for the 3 constituencies of Rukungiri District.

According to Abas K Namara, the Rukungiri District Returning Officer out of the 16 candidates who were duly nominated on the first day, 2 are PFF, 2 for FDC, 1 for NUP and the rest are independents. 

Among the nominated was the minister of security Rtd.Maj.Gen Jim K Muhwezi who is seeking powers to again represent Rujumbura people in Uganda’s parliament.

Addressing press members after being nominated security minister Muhwezi  promised to focus on implementing the NRM manifesto, emphasizing Uganda’s transition to middle-income status, social and economic transformation, and national security.

Dr. Wallen Niwagaba Tumwine, an independent candidate for Rukungiri Municipality was also nominated and promised to improve healthcare, education, electricity access, and garbage collection among others.

At about 10:20 a.m., Fred Turyamuhweza Tumuheirwe of  PFF party was also nominated to represent the people of Rujumbura County. He pledged to transform the Rujumbura county within three years once voted.

At around 10:40 a.m., David Tushabomwe Ndindirize, an independent candidate for Rubabo County was also nominated and he  vowed to fight poverty , improve education and social welfare of Rubabo people.

Others who were nominated were  Allan Nabaasa Tiberondwa of FDC for Rubabo county, Herbert Magezi, another independent candidate for Rujumbura County, At 11:07 a.m., Betty Bamukwasa Muzanira, the PFF candidate for Rukungiri Woman MP, John Paddy Owomugisha, an independent candidate for Rujumbura County, Richard Akanyijuka, an independent candidate for Rukungiri Municipality, Hillary Tumuhimbise Tusiime of the NUP party , Alex Bob Rugonde, an independent candidate for Rubabo County ,Simon Niwagaba, another independent for Rujumbura County, Incumbent Woman MP for Rukungiri District, Medius Natukunda Kaharata independent candidate ,Christine Tusanyuke of FDC, contesting for District Woman MP, Anacklet Amanya, an independent for Rujumbura county and Gerald Karenzi Kooli, independent candidate for Rujumbura County.
