Rukungiri- The National Resistance Movement ( NRM) party mobilizers who were hired  by the senior presidential  advisor on Agriculture and local people Ms Peace Rugambwa to campaign for president Museveni and other party flag  bearers  in Rukungiri District are demanding  their unpaid allowances worth shs.200 M which they said was released but swindled.

The angry NRM party mobilizers told daily monitor after a 3 hour closed door meeting which took place at Merphies Hotel in Eastern division Rukungiri municipality today 13th.May .2026 said they were hired for 15 days to  campaign for President Museveni and other NRM flag bearers during the early this year 2026 general elections.

The group claims Ms Rugambwa promised allowances of Shs300,000 for village-level mobilizers, Shs500,000 for parish level mobilizers, Shs750000 for constituency mobilizers and Shs1 million for district-level mobilizers.

Ranging from village to district level, the mobilizers led by their chairperson Ms  Peruth Nimusiima said they are very much sure that their money was released but it was swindled by Ms Peace Rugambwa who hired them after promising them heaven and earth.

‘’ I demand shs.10 M because every day I was working for shs.1 M. My fellows at the district level are demanding the same amount and we are 8 in total. So as mobilizers at the district level we demand shs.80 M from Ms Peace Rugambwa because she is the one who promised us that much ’’. Ms Nimusiima said.

Ms Nimusiima added that ‘’ Ms Peace also promised them a car, motorcycles, cows, coffee seedlings, hens among others which were never fulfilled. It is from this point that I am asking president Museveni and our Mps to look into our issue because we looked for their votes and good chance they all won elections therefore we should be paid since we worked’’.

Ms Joy Ngabirano, 45 a resident of Bwambara Sub-county in Rukungiri district and a mobilizer at the district level said ‘’ On December 23, 2025, we were called by Ms Peace Rugambwa for the official launch of a door-to-door campaign aimed at mobilizing support for President Museveni and all NRM flag bearers ahead of the 2026 general elections at Palm Royal hotel and it was during that launch that we were hired and we started working with immediate effect’’

Ms Ngabirano added that ‘’ we were told that after elections, we will  be paid our money which never happened. Myself I demand shs.10 M and a car’’.

Mr John-Bosco Muhumuza, 39 a resident of Bwambara sub- county and a mobilizer at the constituency level said Ms Rugambwa did not only promise them money but also a trip to State House to meet the President.

‘’ We were not only working for money but also a trip to the state house to meet president Museveni and share our problems with him. At the moment Ms Rugambwa has completely refused to answer our calls and she only abuses us as if we have committed a crime to call her’’ Mr Muhumuza said.

Ms Muhumuza now wants the president to quickly intervene before they stand a peaceful demonstration.

Ms Julie Turyagyenda 32, a resident of Eastern division in Rukungiri municipality and also a mobilizer at the village level said she demands shs. 300,000 from Ms Rugambwa because every day she was for shs. 20000 and she worked for 15 days’’.

Ms Turyagyenda added that ‘’ she could carry her baby with an empty stomach  and move from house to house looking for president Museveni’s votes with a lot of hopes of getting promised money and meeting the president but all this didn’t come true. She now asks president Museveni to intervene’’.

Mr Collins Mumpe 36, a resident of Mitooma district and the mobilizer for Mitooma District said the issue affects mobilizers in 12 districts across southwestern Uganda where the team Peace Rugambwa reportedly operated.

“We are asking President Museveni to intervene. This matter is causing divisions within the NRM. We worked for 15 days using our own money. Up to now, we have not been paid,” Mumpe stated.

Mr Mumpe also accused Ms Rugambwa for allegedly staging fake political defections during the campaign by hiring people and printing Forum for Democratic Change and National Unity Platform cards to create what he described as an impression of active mobilization.

This is not the first time Ms Peace Rugambwa is being accused of swindling people’s money in a way of promising them heaven and earth. About 10 years ago , Ms Rugambwa collected shs.12000 from the  people of Rukungiri promising  items like  mattresses, onions, and other materials but she allegedly disappeared after collecting the money. This is according to Mr Richard Turyabira of Bwambara sub- County who was conceived by Ms Rugambwa to pay the money.

Mr Turyabira added that ‘’ Ms Rugambwa promised him mattress, coffee and onion seedlings. I was told that after paying shs. 12000 I will receive the above-mentioned items. After hearing the good news, I paid for my wife and my mother who is 87 at the moment. She called shs.36000 from my family. Am therefore asking President Museveni to intervene ‘’.

By press time, Ms Peace Rugambwa had not yet commented on the allegations, as she reportedly declined to answer repeated phone calls from our reporter.
