Rukungiri – The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has been defeated by independent in the Rukungiri district local government speakership race.
NRM party presented Mr James Turyamubona while opposition presented Mr Albert Ahabwa independent candidate.
Mr Albert Ahabwa , an independent candidate and the direct elected councillor for Buyanja sub- county in Rukungiri district won election with 21 to 15 votes.
The election exercise took place at Riverside hotel in Eastern division Rukungiri municipality during the swearing in ceremony of the new district council members.
