Rukungiri – The people’s Front for Freedom ( PFF) party candidate Ms Phionah Nankunda has won the Rukungiri district local government deputy Speakership race after defeating NRM’s party candidate Ms Mackline Sabiti with 19 to 17 votes.
Relatedly , Albert Ahabwa , an independent candidate and the direct elected councillor for Buyanja sub- county in Rukungiri district also won the Rukungiri district local government speakership seat after defeating the NRM’s party candidate and the outgoing speaker Mr James Turyamubona with 21 to 15 votes.
The election exercise took place at Riverside hotel in Eastern division Rukungiri municipality during the today’s 20th May .2026 swearing in ceremony of the new district council members.
At the same function, the Rukungiri district local government district Chairperson Mr Charles Andrewson Katabire also took his oath.
