Martrys day: 11-year-old boy among 160 Rukungiri pilgrims walking to Namugongo.

Rukungiri- Keith Anieomugisha, 11 year old boy and  a resident of Buyanja sub- county in Rukungiri district is among the 160 foot pilgrims from North Kigezi Diocese in Rukungiri District who on 17th. May .2025 started the journey to Namugongo ahead of this year’s Martyrs’ Day celebrations.

Anieomugisha who is trekking to Namugongo for the first time said he decided to walk to Namugongo to thank the almighty Lord for the gift of life  and to ask Lord to allow him to become an important person in future.

” It’s true am young but I have to participate in this wake of faith thanking my Lord who created me and blessed since I was born. Am strong and I know I will make to Kampala on 3rd June” Aniomugisha said 

Mr Byaruhanga Aggrey 45, another pilgrim and a resident of Bwambara sub- county in Rukungiri district said his main purpose of trekking to Namugongo Shrines is to exalt God for protection.

“I decided to participate in this year’s walk of faith  to the living God for the protection, he has given to me and my family ” Mr Byaruhanga said 

Mr Twinomujuni Mugisha 86, another pilgrim said he is trekking to Namugongo to thank the Lord who saved his life from death saying that about 3 months ago he was operated and he was able to through the operation and he now has life.

“About 3 month ago I was operated so I decided to participate in this year’s walk of faith to thank the living who  helped me to go through operation that granted the life I have at the moment”.Mr Mugisha said.

Mr Jackson Agaba, the pilgrims team leader called for co-operation among the foot pilgrims saying cooperation and oneness will help them to reach kampala when they are still alive.

“Co-operation, team work and good discipline will make us succeed in this walk . So am calling co-operation and I know we shall reach Kampala when we cooperate”. Mr Jackson said.

Rev. Julius  Niwagaba, the Diocesan missions co-coordinator, appealed to all the pilgrims to continue to reflective on the theme for this year’s martyr’s day in their journey of faith.

“Walking to Namugongo should not leave the same.Talk to your God and let Him enter your life and in doing repent your sins and come back when you are a changed person  who will give a good example to others who never participated in this walk of faith”. Rev.Niwagaba said while blessing the foot pilgrims.

He also asked the Christians to pray for the foot pilgrims saying that they badly need their prayers.

“Kindly pray for these pilgrims because this activity is not easy but in God’s name and your prayers will make them succeed” Rev Nuwagaba asked Christians of North Kigezi diocese.

The foot pilgrims will use only 13 days to reach Kampala
