Rukungiri – The former Minister of Security Rtd Lt Gen Henry Tumukunde has been floored in the Rukungiri district NRM party elections by the minister of Security Rtd Maj Gen Jim K Muhwezi who earned 464 votes.
In an election that took place in Rukungiri district main stadium, Gen Tumukunde defected the race giving a chance to Minister Muhwezi to become the Rukungiri district NRM party chairperson without any challenge.
Addressing, the NRM party members before defecting the race , Gen Tumukunde said he can not participate in an election that is full of Irregularities.

“Am pulling out of this election because of gross irregularities and violations of Uganda’s Constitution and military laws. The NRM District Registrar, Jackson Mugarura is an active intelligence officer working with Internal Security Organisation (ISO) which is against our party’s constitution” Mr Tumukunde said.
Gen Tumukunde added ” Section 99 of the UPDF Act, 2005 bars serving military officers from engaging in partisan politics, and Article 208(2) of the Constitution mandates a UPDF serving officer to remain nonpartisan and under civilian control”.
Despite these objections, the election went ahead and Gen Jim K Muhwezi was declared the Rukungiri district NRM party chairperson by the Rukungiri district NRM elections officer Mr Jackson Magurara
Addressing the NRM party members after being elected as the district NRM party chairperson, Minister Muhwezi hailed the party members for voting him and promised to build the party from grassroot up to the national level.
