According to government chief whip Hon. Denis Hamson Obua, President Yoweri Museveni Kaguta is set to begin his tour of Northern Uganda in Gulu on February 22nd and 23rd, 2023. The president’s tour of all 18 zones of the country will begin in Gulu and is expected to address key issues and demands from various regions.

During the wedding ceremony of Apac RDC Abdul George and his wife Elizabeth from Uganda Technical College-Lira, Obua spoke to a gathering of over 1,000 people, announcing that he and other leaders would be leaving for Gulu on Tuesday the 21st of February, 2023. He also assured the congregation that the President would be touring all 18 zones of the country, with Northern Uganda being the first stop.

Leaders in the Acholi sub-region have raised concerns about the Apaa land issue, with many hoping that it will be addressed during the President’s tour. NRM supporters from the same region also want the election of the NRM National Vice chairman, a position that fell vacant after the death of RIP Jacob L’Okori Olanya, to be conducted. These issues are just a few among the demands that will be presented to the President during his tour.

Meanwhile, NRM supporters in Lango sub-region are calling for the construction of the Akiibua stadium, compensation for Lango war claimants, and the provision of an NRM package for aspirants who did not make it in the 2021 MPS and LCV races. They also want the construction of airfields in the region.

A section of journalists who preferred to remain anonymous also raised their concerns and requested that President Museveni provide Greater North journalists who underwent a six-day training at Kyambogo with cameras, recorders, and other relevant equipment for coverage of government projects, including socio-economic transformation events.

The President’s tour of Northern Uganda will undoubtedly provide an opportunity for him to address these various concerns and demands. The region has seen significant development in recent years, with various infrastructure projects underway, and the tour will likely showcase the progress being made.

It remains to be seen how the President will address the concerns and demands that have been raised, but many are hopeful that his tour will bring positive change to the various regions he will visit.
