Up to 30 families in Masese I village in Southern division, Jinja city are homeless after yesterday’s fire destroyed their makeshift houses.
The fire that reduced property including furniture, electronics, utensils and mattresses among other valuables to ashes, is said to have broken out from one of the houses around 9:00 pm.
The Acting Kiira central police commander, Mourice Niyonzima says that they are yet to establish the cause of the fire, having dispatched teams to the area for thorough inquiries and a final report on the matter will be made available.
Some residents requested government to equip police with more fire fighting equipment to manage fire outbreaks others than relying on the factories which most cases undergo long processes before extending aid to the public.
Meanwhile Collins Agaba, the Kiira regional fire officer said that fire fighting vehicles are undergoing parodic maintenance and will be ready by Monday
He, however, denied reports of ignoring emergency calls in case of fire outbreaks.
“Our fire vehicle is always are always parked at the station, with a full tank of water and whenever a call for help comes in, we rush to the scene and also contact other partners from factories to boost the rescue mission”, He said
