
Police in Kabale is investigating circumstances under which a 36-year-old woman was allegedly killed by her husband.
It is alleged that Phiona Asiimwe, a resident of Kacerere B cell, Ryakarimira town council in Kabale district, was murdered by one Wilber Sigirenda, 48.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Sigirenda allegedly cut Asiimwe on the neck, using a panga.
The incident, according to Elly Maate, the Kigezi region police spokesperson, happened on August 8, 2021, at 8pm at the couple’s home.
“The suspect reached home, found the victim who is his second wife in the house and children already asleep. He forceful opened the door, attacked and cut her neck. She died instantly,” Maate said.
It is alleged that by the time Police went to arrest the suspect, he had taken a substance likened to poison or drugs that made him weak.
He is currently unconscious and admitted at Rubaya Health Centre IV.
The case of murder was registered at kabale central police under Ref. No. CRB 672/2021.
Inquiries to establish the cause of murder is ongoing.
