Leaders in the Lango sub-region are mourning the sudden death of Dokolo District Education Officer and an icon of girl child education.
Rev Bosco Bwonyo Acup passed on at Lira regional referral hospital on Sunday, August 8, after he was rushed to the facility following a diabetic attack.
“I replaced him and he was a down to earth person, very knowledgeable in the area of education,” said Patrick Olwit Ogwang, a senior Lira district inspector of schools.

He said he was also a down to earth person on the issue of girl child education.
“I worked with him in the project called DREAM (Determined Resilient Empowered AIDS-free Mentored and Safe Women). He was one of the lead facilitators for the region,” he said.
Bwoyo worked in Lira as senior inspector of schools, acted as DEO after the retirement of George Milton Abua for about two years. He was later promoted to Principal education officer of Lira municipality.
Olwit said he came a long way, from a classroom teacher, a tutor, senior tutor at Loro Core Teachers’ Training College to Lira as senior inspector of schools.
“It is a big loss,” he said.
The district LC5 chairperson, James Otto, said Bwonyo was a very hardworking civil servant and Dokolo has lost a great leader.
“As leaders, we were relying on him to help us improve the deteriorating performance of education in the district,” he said.
Dokolo district woman MP Cecilia Ogwal said she was shocked over the sudden death of Bwonyo.
She described him as a mature person with a wealth of experience, incorruptible and capable.
