IGP Byakagaba assures Rukungiri peaceful NRM elections.

Rukungiri – The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Abas Byakagaba has asked the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party candidates competing for flag of various positions to maintain to law and order.

” This is an internal election that should not cause alarm.It is from this background that I want you play mature politics, don’t abuse your fellows but instead co-operate and focus more on promoting peace and security of your supporters” IGP Byakagaba told press after addressing a closed door security meeting with NRM party candidates, a meeting that took place in Rukungiri district council hall in late evening hours of yesterday 11th.July .2025.

The IGP also warned political players who are creating tension that may result into violence in in the upcoming NRM party primary party.

” Elections allows Ugandans to preform and exercise their civic power of choosing leaders of their choice and in this case the ruling party, the National Resistance Movement is holding in-house elections which do not warrant violence” IGP Byakagaba said.

The IGP added ” As Police we shall not sit.On the polling day I will deploy my men both in uniforms and non- uniformed. So stand warned in case are caught trying to destabilize the election process you will face hot because I will arrest you and take to Courts of law”.

He also asked the NRM party candidates competing for flag of various positions to follow the the NRM Electoral Commission guidelines saying that’s when the election process will be free and fair.

Addressing the press after by the closed door security meeting , the Minister of Security Rtd Maj Gen.Jim K Muhwezi assured the public of a free violence elections saying that there is nothing to worry.

” Security is in our hands. Don’t fear anything just on the polling day, go to your village polling centers and line behind the candidate of your choice.Nobody should stop you from preforming your role of choosing your leaders “. Minister Muhwezi said.

Minister Muhwezi who is also campaigning to retain the NRM flag for Rujumbura County hailed IGP Byakagaba for visiting Rukungiri saying that his visit of a great importance to the district.

” Mr IGP, Rukungiri is calm and I want to assure you that we shall have the most peaceful elections because we valve peace and we well know the dangers of violent elections ” Minister Muhwezi said.

The Rukungiri Municipality Aspirant Member of Parliament Dr Elisa Rutahigwa welcomed the meeting saying that the meeting was timely and it will address alot .

” There is a lot of intimidation and bribery in these elections. Some candidates even campaign at night which is illegal. So I think this meeting is going to change alot and we shall have free and fair elections “. Dr Rutahigwa said.

The Rukungiri district woman mp Aspirant Ms Mary Paula Turyahikayo said ” there was need for reinforcing the Police Personnel in Rukungiri given the fact that there were two former Army Generals who are contesting to become members of Parliament though in different constituencies”.

The Rukungiri Resident District Commissioner Mr Stephen Nsubuga Bewayo, who organized the meeting hailed the Inspector General of Police for visiting the district saying that his visit has come at a right time .

“Thank you for visiting us . Rukungiri is calm as far as security is concerned. You well know that we are political season so visiting us is a great relief to me as the chairperson of the district security committee ” Mr Bewayo said.

He also assured the public to freely participate in these elections without any fear saying that their security is guaranteed.

Rtd. Lt.Gen Henry Tumukunde, who is also campaigning for Rukungiri municipality NRM party flag also attended the meeting.
