Rukungiri NRM Registrar granted Bail.

Rukungiri– The Rukungiri Chief Magistrate court has today afternoon granted bail to the Rukungiri district National Resistance Movement ( NRM) party elections officers ( Registrar ) Mr Mwongyera Wright following his arrest on charges related to electoral malpractice.

Mr Mwongyera was arrested on Friday last week amid accusations that he refused to tally the results of eight polling stations in Buyanja sub- County where Alex Bob Rugonde, one of the competitors for the Rubabo Member of Parliament NRM party flag had won a thing that contributed to his defeat thus the arrest of the district NRM registrar.

His worship Mbarabgu Gonzaga, the Rukungiri Grade I Magistrate granted a non- cash bail of Ugx 15 M to accused and Ugx 10 M to both sureties and asked the accused to re-appear in court on 17th September 2025 for case hearing.

The accused was released on conditions of not travelling beyond the boards of Rukungiri district and in case of travelling he should first seek permission from court, should not interfere with investigations, and should appear in court without any fail among others.

Addressing the media after the court session, Bob Alex Rugonde , the complaint, welcomed the court decision saying that he is very happy for the step he has so far reached, asking his supporters to remain calm and wait for the court ruling.

He also asked the court to quicken its proceedings so that he can plan and decide whether to come back as an independent candidate in case it fails to go well on his side.

Ms Sarah Nasike, a lawyer of the accused, thanked the court for granting bail to her client saying that the bail will help the client to refresh his mind and prepare himself for court.

Some of the supporters of Alex Bob Rugonde asked the president of the republic of Uganda H.E. YK Museveni to intervene in their issue as it may affect party performance in the coming 2026 general elections.

In the recently concluded NRM party Primary elections for Rubabo county, Mathias Mwesigwa was declared the winner of the Rubabo county NRM party flag bearer after polling 10264 votes (23.7%) followed by Alex Bob Rugonde who polled 9704 (22.4%). Others in the race were David Ndindirize with 9363 votes (21.6%), Busingye Dorren 7686 votes (17%), Twebaze Doreen 1811 votes (4.2%) and Twinomujuni Ibrahim 104 (0.2%).

The case remains ongoing with investigations continuing as the district watches closely.
