Owners and teachers of private schools in Serere district have asked the Microfinance Support Centre to speed up the plan to release the sh20b relief fund promised to private school teachers in the country.

The government through the Microfinance Support Centre plans to distribute the relief fund promised to private school teachers through their SACCOS.

In July, last year, President Yoweri Museveni pledged sh20b to support teachers from private schools who were affected by the lockdown imposed on the country which led to the closure of schools as a way of preventing the spread of COVID-19.

Samuel Olinga Egadu, the proprietor of Homeland primary school in Serere district thanked President Museveni for thinking about private teachers and coming out to save them from what they called the bad conditions they have been living in since the closure of schools in the country.

Egadu says the ministry of education has identified NAPSTA, to scrutinize and identify the teachers who qualify to share these funds in the whole country.

Egadu encouraged teachers to register and become members of the association and also join SACCOS to access the funds.

According to Egadu, NAPSTA is currently facilitating the formation of private teachers SACCOS in the whole country and ensuring that these SACCOS are efficient and not exploiting teachers who have already been affected by the lockdown.
