Rukungiri- Lack of scholastic materials among the school going children in the rural areas of Rukungiri district has been singled out as the one of the key challenges that is irking them from attaining quality education.
Due to financial strains and limited sources of income among rural parents, a good number of school going children in rural setting usual go to school without books, pens, pencils among others scholastic materials which greatly affect their performance and hinders them from attaining quality education.
Rev. Faith Besigye, 32 and a single mother of 2 said as a parent she normally faces a lot of hardship while trying to raise scholastic materials for 2 her children.

Ms Joyce Mbabazi 45, a single mother of 4 also said because of financial challenges she find it hard to support the education of her children .
Ms Musiime Generous 33, a mother of 3 said raising money to support the education her children and buying scholastic materials is a very big challenge.
As a way of addressing this challenge among school going children, Kaheeru foundation in partnership with Asa international donated scholastic materials worth Ugx. 7 M to over 50 school going children with humble backgrounds.
The donated items included pens, Books, pencils, washing and Bathing Soaps, Suger, Toilet papers among others.
While giving out these materials to beneficiaries at Riverside hotel in Eastern division Rukungiri municipality yesterday, Ms Ronah Kaheeru of kaheeru foundation said they conducted a research and they found out that a good school going children in rural areas lack scholastic materials.
Ms Kaheeru used the same platform and asked parents to invest in the education of their children.
Speaking at the same function, Ms Hasifah Namutebi of ASA International said they decided to partner with Kaheeru foundation to uplift the well being of learners while at school.
