CURFEW: 18 convicted, remanded for allegedly defying ministry guidelines

The Makindye Chief Magistrates’ Court has convicted and remanded Eighteen people to Kitalya Prisons for violating curfew regulations.

The accused, who pleaded guilty to the charge included; Stephen Osere, Fred Kimuli, 25, John Lutaaro, 21, Abel Arinda, 18, Selly Muhindo, 24, Abudul Wanjija, 45, Richard Magezi, 31, Francis Muhimbo, 38, Wilson Niwagira, Bosco Niwaninda, and Tadeo Tukundane, 28.

Others are David Byakatonda, 34, Ian Kanyesigye, 22, Paul Jjuuko, 19, Nicholas Oine, 23, Shaban Mukuni, 19, Arafat Magala, 24, and Joseph Kabanda, 38 all residents of Ndejje Kanaaba, Makindye Ssabagabo in Wakiso district.

Prosecution told court that on September 2, 2021 at night while at Kanaaba trading center in Makindye Ssabagabo, the convicts did a negligent act likely to spread an infectious disease contrary to section 171 of the penal code act, by gathering in a bar in big numbers likely to cause the spread of covid-19.

That during the same day and time, the convicts disobeyed ministry of health guidelines aimed at fighting the spread of covid-19 by gathering in a bar.

Makindye Grade One Magistrate, Irene Nambatya, remanded the convicts till September 23, 2021 when the prosecution will avail court with brief facts.
