Man Electrocuted While Working Near Power Lines in Isingiro

A 23-year-old man lost his life due to electrocution while cutting a tree under a transmission electricity line. The incident occurred at Kyabinunga B cell, Kyabinunga Parish, Kagarama sub-county, where the victim, Karuhanga Silas, was working as a casual laborer.

Rwizi Police region spokesperson Samson Kasasira reported that the deceased, originally from Mwizi sub-county in Rwampara district, was part of a team working at Kyabinunga trading center when the unfortunate incident took place.

According to an eyewitness, Rwegasira Jennifer, 63, who reported the incident to the police, the tree Silas was cutting fell onto live wires without appropriate insulation gadgets, resulting in the fatal electrocution. The incident happened on Thursday, January 11, 2024, around 12:30 pm.

Police responded to the report of sudden death by electrocution, documenting the scene, and transporting the deceased’s body to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for postmortem examination. The police emphasized the need for caution when working near transmission electricity lines to prevent such tragic accidents.
