Residents of Obongi, Madi-Okollo, Kasese, Ntoroko, Namayingo and Busia districts are currently receiving a second round of the oral Cholera vaccine to guard themselves against the fatal disease.
The ministry of health is implementing this with support from World Health Organisation (WHO), according to a tweet shared by WHO.
The health ministry administered the first dose four months ago.

Cholera is an acute illness caused by bacteria called vibrio cholera, characterised by acute watery diarrhoea. Within a very short time, cholera patients can die if their cases are not quickly managed by a health worker.
The disease is transmitted through drinking water or eating food contaminated with faeces harbouring the bacteria.
Symptoms of cholera can begin as soon as few hours or as long as five days after the infection. About one in 20 people infected present with severe watery diarrhoea and vomiting, which can quickly lead to dehydration.
The health has continuously urged the public to be vigilant and report any suspected cholera cases and other strange diseases to the nearest health facility or call the ministry’s toll free line on 0800-100-066.
