Many football grounds in the country have been encroached on and taken over for other businesses or have been neglected or used as grazing ground by farmers.
This has also been the case with Bushenyi district’s major playing ground in Bushenyi town, which has for years been a grazing ground for the neighbouring farmers and also a training ground for driving schools around town.
However, this problem has been put to rest, as the Bushenyi district sports department has moved in to fence it off to stop this misuse.

“We realised that the encroachment and misuse had reached a high level, so we have come in to save the grounds with a permanent fence to stop it,” said Abel Kamugisha, the district sports officer.

Kamugisha says the people who have been misusing the playground have been warned and the police notified for any other trespassers.
In 2004, the renovations work of the facility that was estimated at 964 million shillings was never done to the expected contractual agreement, which aroused several demonstrations on the streets of Bushenyi by the area sports lovers.
However, the district came in to allocate another sh100m to a new contractor S.T Company Limited that did some work that lifted the stadium to a playable state.

Currently, the facility is home to Western region league outfits Bushenyi Veterans and also used to host several schools and other clubs activities before the Covid 19 pandemic struck.
Kamugisha believes the district will facilitate more renovation work and erect a seating pavilion as this is the main district facility.
