Over 300 UPDF soldiers from Magamaga cantonment conducted a route march along the Jinja-Iganga highway, heading to Bugweri district for the Tarehe Sita celebrations.

The soldiers, adorned with fresh green and dry banana leaves, commenced their march from Magamaga barracks at 9:00 am, reaching their destination around midday. During their three-hour journey, they engaged in conversations with members of the public, enlightening them about the values of the National Resistance Army (NRA) struggle.

Lt. Col. James Sajjabi, the acting Magamaga Cantonment commander, described the march as a culmination of their activities in the Busoga region, aiming to demonstrate the significance of Tarehe Sita projects to the local communities.

Sajjabi emphasized that their attire resembling the bush-war era aimed to educate the youth about the sacrifices made during the liberation war for peace and stability.

Davidson Zijja, the secretary for education and social services in Mayuge district, highlighted the importance of physical infrastructure improvements and community engagement in fostering peace and security.

Zijja emphasized the significance of physical demonstrations in conveying the nature of the struggle and the risks endured, particularly to the youth, who may lack a strong reading culture.

Maj. Erisa Mutabaruka, the acting cantonment political commissar, stressed that such sensitization efforts not only promote economic independence among the youth but also reinforce political ideologies essential for maintaining peace.
