Wakiso -The Police at Kibiri on Thursday carried out an operation on bars that play loud music in Busabala, and arrested seven people from two bars.
According to Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson, the operation followed a public outcry and directive by the Deputy Inspector General of Police for the territorial Police to work hand in hand with Environment Police to curb down Noise Pollution.
He says the suspects are currently detained at Katwe Police station on allegations of Noise pollution.

“Before their arrest, the police and community had for several times made complaints and warning towards the noise coming out of their establishment.” Says Owoyesigyire
The Police caution members of the public to always be mindful of their neighbors and only use the required decibels in a residential area.
Owoyesigyire notes that police have also been informed through Community liaison officers to at all time move around communities and hold Community engagement meetings on noise pollution.
Under the Noise Standards and Control Regulations, noise is measured in logarithmic units called decibels (dB). In general environment, noise should be 45dB day and night and 35dB for places which require minimum noise such as libraries, recreational areas, hospitals and institutions of higher learning, among others.
