Rwenzururu King Charles Wesley Mumbere made a triumphant return to Kasese town on October 4, 2023, after being away for nearly seven years. In 2016, he was removed from his kingdom following a military operation and arrested on charges of terrorism and murder.

The people of Kasese welcomed their king with overwhelming enthusiasm. The town was alive with cultural music, excited voices, and vibrant celebrations that lasted through the night. The eagerly anticipated homecoming concert took place at Rwenzori Square, attracting a massive crowd.

Residents expressed their joy by adorning themselves in traditional attire and participating in Bakonzo cultural dances and music. The atmosphere was filled with infectious happiness as people celebrated their heritage.

As King Mumbere’s plane landed, the entire town came to a standstill. He was warmly received and performed important cultural rituals before addressing a massive crowd at the golf course. His return marked the end of a dark period, as all charges against him had been dropped.

King Mumbere’s homecoming signifies a new beginning for the Rwenzururu Kingdom, with hopes for peace and reconciliation in the region.
