The police in Wakiso are preparing summons for former Presidential candidate Lt. Gen. Henry Tumukunde to write a statement regarding an assault case reported against him by a casual labourer.

It is alleged Gen.Tumukunde assaulted one Will Jasimwa, 29, a worker for Betty Namusis, while he was working with three others in her garden.

Charles Twiine, the CID spokesperson said the victim had recorded a statement with the police at Muduuma police insisting that Gen. Tumukunde, assisted by two other people he could not easily identify, on September 19, 2021, at about 5pm found him in the garden where he was employed and started beating him using a club.

He also allegedly ordered him to remove anything he had been using to plant, accusing him of trespassing on his land. He also warned him never to step on the land.

The case was recorded as harm on MCB20/2021.

Twiine said the police were preparing to summon the General to record a statement before deciding whether to forward the matter to the state attorney for advice.

Tumukunde contested in the 2021 elections as an independent candidate.
