Police investigates two separate gruesome murders by mentally ill mothers

Police in Buikwe and Luweero are investigating two separate gruesome murders by mentally ill mothers on their young children of two years, respectively.

In a statement released on Monday, Police noted that the first instance happened on Monday 6, September 2021 at around 7:00 pm at Kisaala village, Buikwe sub-county, when one Racheal Nakyanzi, a 30-year-old mother picked her two-year-old biological daughter, identified as Sylvia Kizza, and took her inside her grandmother’s house, where she slit her throat using a knife.

“The suspect was examined upon arrest and found to be oF unsound mind and further transferred to Butabika,” Police said.

The second incident police say occurred on Friday, September 10, 2021, at around 6:00 pm at Wobulenzi, “Police received a report where a one Yudayah, a 30-year-old, mentally ill mother, while at Bukolwa Gwafwa, Katikamu sub-county in Luweero, picked a hoe and cut her two-year-old daughter, Winnie Mercy on the neck.

The victim bled to death. The suspect was arrested and found to be of unsound mind.  Exhibit recovered and exhibited,” the statement indicated.

Police noted that the country continues to face murders arising out of mental disorders. “ Such murders are exacerbated by health and domestic challenges that need to be addressed.

We should all remember that all children, however young, have a right to life, survival and well-being, which rights we must observe,” the statement indicated.

Police noted that as part of the joint security agencies, they strongly condemn such acts of cruel and inhuman behavior against young children because there is no justification whatsoever.
