
Police on Tuesday arrested Benson Okongo who was filmed assaulting his wife Sauda Nagawa, 36, a resident of Mutundwe Hill in Kigaga zone in a secretly recorded video that went viral on social media,
Luke Owoyesigyire the Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Public Relations Officer confirmed that Okongo had been detained at Natete Police station.
“Okongo was arrested following allegations of grievous bodily harm and domestic violence,” Owoyesigyire said.

He noted that the incident happened on the Saturday, August 14, 2021, from which, the local authorities in the area arrested the suspect and took him to the Police station where he was detained.
In the one-minute grisly video secretly recorded by a neighbour, which has since raised an uproar on social media, Okongo can be seen kicking Nagawa several times, and later using bricks to hit her head.
Owoyesigyire noted that the file has since been forwarded to the Resident State Attorney and that Okongo had been charged with the offence of causing grievous bodily harm and would be arraigned in court once the charges are confirmed.
“We have in the past seen an increase in cases of domestic violence which unfortunately lead to death. We would like to inform the victims to report as soon as possible to our police station for proper case handling,” Owoyesigyire stated.
