A small plane has crashed in a building outside Milan, killing all eight people on board

The plane, which took off from Milan’s Linate city airport, was headed for the island of Sardinia, officials said.

Flames and smoke shot in the air and several vehicles parked along the street caught fire, according to witnesses.

The crash occurred just outside a suburban metro station in Firefighters at the scene of the crash in San Donato Milanese, near Milan, just after 1pm today.

Italian newspaper La Repubblica reports that the victims were six French tourists, one of whom was a child, a Romanian pilot and another crew member.

No other casualties have been reported.

A 19-year-old witness named Andrea said: “I saw the plane swoop down and then crash there.”

He said he called his friends as he got scared after hearing a loud noise and seeing pieces of iron everywhere.

The building hit by the small plane was under construction and caught fire after the crash.

Nobody lived in the building, Italian media reported.

Emergency services, including ambulances, firefighters and police rushed to the scene, but none of the passengers could be saved.

According to Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera and several Romanian media outlets, the pilot was 30-year-old Dan Petrescu.
