The ministry of education says that learners in Primary one two and three as well as senior one and senior two will be priotised for schools reopening.

There is no doubt that learners in the above mentioned classes have taken the longest time with out interaction with their teachers. They had just studied for one month when the country was hit by covid 19.

According to the strategy, the education ministry also recommends that the phased reopening of schools should be localized rather than opening the country at once. Also schools with huge populations will be required to employ two shifts a day and these will also be required to provide temporary structures to ensure social distancing.

The ministry says that S1 students should be taught in line with the revised curriculum of lower Secondary School which was rolled out in February last year.

Instead of starting classes from 8:00 a.m, and end at 4:00 p.m, lessons now have to start at 8:00a.m and end at about 2:50 p.m with breaks inclusive. To make this possible, the number of subjects to be taught were reduced from 42 to just 20.

According to the National Curriculum Development Center (NCDC), the remaining time will be used by students to either develop own projects, research or develop talents through playing.

Dr. Irene Mwenyango, a scientist from the health ministry called for a review of the Sops and recommended on school based care where schools are required to set up covid 19 isolation centers.
