NTUNGAMO:

During a district council meeting held in the Ntungamo district council hall and presided over by Speaker Nicholas Twikirize, the Ntungamo Deputy Resident District Commissioner Robert Niwamanya Kamuntu addressed the council, highlighting how minor quarrels often escalate into serious crimes such as murder. He further revealed that the district security committee is concerned about the cases that have resulted in the loss of lives, cases that could have been resolved at early stages.

Kamuntu added that they have been working closely with the district commander, Uganda People’s Defense forces UPDF fraternity, and have already arrested the culprits involved in some of the cases. However, some of the suspects are still at large, and they are working tirelessly to ensure that they are brought to justice.

Kamuntu urged the Councilor’s in the district to champion the fight against criminality in the district to prevent it from escalating further.

On the other hand, the Ntungamo chief administrative officer (CAO) Mathius Ndifuna called on the technocrats and the political wing to work together to ensure effective service delivery. Ndifuna emphasized the importance of having harmony among the workers and technocrats to promote development in the district. He urged the council members to have respect for one another, noting that bad publicity affects all leaders in Ntungamo, and the council cannot develop when the political and technical people are fighting each other.

Itojo sub county district councilor Muhumuza Denis Savimbi raised concerns about pockets of insecurity resulting from alcohol and drug misuse. He called on the district security committee to monitor the operations of bars and other happening places to prevent such insecurity cases. Savimbi added that development can only be achieved when there is security that enables people to operate peacefully.

Some councillors noted that Kolokolo is the main problem that brings insecurity in Ntungamo District, found almost in every trading center.
