Makerere University has suspended the 15% annual tuition increment for two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a tweet on his official Twitter account, the university Vice-Chancellor Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe said the suspension is to last for two years.

Prof “Yesterday the Makerere University Council suspended the 15% annual tuition fees increment for two years. I thank the Council for responding to the COVID-19 situation positively,” Nawangwe wrote.
The University Council approved the 15% tuition increment, which started in 2018/2019 with the new students.

The move followed the student guild proposal of a 15% increase to the university council after they protested the 45% and 91% rise that had been proposed by the council earlier that very year.
