Rukungiri – The People’s Front for freedom ( PFF) party acting President Erias Lukwago Ssalongo has asked Rukungiri people to massively vote against ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) leaders as a revenge for the continued detention of their son Dr Kizza Besigye, Sam Mugumya and other political prisoners.
Addressing the PPF party supporters from Rukungiri district during the launch of the party Mobilisation grassroot campaign which took place in the district main stadium, the Kampala city Lord Mayor said ” President Museveni and his NRM government have completely and totally refused to release your Son Dr Kizza Besigye so don’t vote them because his continued detention is illegally”
Lukwago added that ” You should use these elections to show president Museveni and his NRM people that you are annoyed with the continued detention of your son who has been in jail for almost one Year”

The party acting President used the same platform and asked Rukungiri people to vote for PPF party flag bearers.
” Kindly vote our flag bearers because they are tested and they will contribute a lot towards the release of your Son Dr Kizza Besigye. I know the NRM party leaders are giving out a lot of Money. Eat that money and don’t vote them “. Lukwago added.
The PFF Party spokesperson Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda delivered a fiery message of unity and reconciliation accusing President Yoweri Museveni for sowing tribal divisions to maintain power.
” Lets remain united, for sure we are all Ugandans and what hurts us as Buganda people hurts you also. Remember we all pay taxes and we all demand for good roads, hospitals from this government. So my message is simple kindly let’s unite and fight together for well being of our country Uganda”. Nganda said.

Mr Nganda added that ” The arrest and continued of your son Dr Besigye is an infringement of his rights because all the accusations against him and others are politically outstretched.Am therefore asking you not any NRM party flag bearer.”
The Kigezi sub- region PFF party coordinator Mr Fred Tumuhweirwe Turyamuhweza welcomed Lukwago message of voting out NRM party leaders saying that the action will put the government and Museveni on pressure to release Besigye and other political prisoners.
” We are ready as Kigezi sub- region and I want to tell you my dear president that we shall act in accordance to the message and I will transverse the whole district spreading the same message “Mr Turyamuhweza said.
Speaking at the same function, the Rukungiri district People’s Front for freedom (PFF) party chairperson Mr Mugurara Aloysius asked Rukungiri people to vote against NRM leaders for being corrupt.
” You are aware of what is taking place in our country so on 15th.January 2026, let’s vote for PPF party flag bearers only at the level of Parliament. So doing so we shall be releasing our son Dr Kizza Besigye ” Mr Aloysius noted.
The Rukungiri Municipality member of Parliament flag bearer for PFF party Ms Ingrid Turinawe asked the people of Rukungiri municipality to vote her into the office of the area member of Parliament for improved service delivery across the Municipality.
” I have been with you both in rain and strong sunshine. I have been beaten and I have suffered for what is enough. Kindly wipe away my tears by voting me as your area member of Parliament come 15th January 2026. Thank you” Ms Ingrid said.

Mr Wilson Rodgers , a resident of Rwakabengo B cell in Southern Division, Rukungiri Municipality said despite very annoyed by the continued detention of our son Dr Besigye but the unanimous decision of voting out all NRM leaders in Rukungiri in form of revenge is not because some NRM party leaders have been very vital towards the development of our district.
” The decision of voting out NRM party leaders in our district is likely not to become a success because we consider different reasons while voting for leaders and even some NRM party leaders have been there for our district” Mr Rogers said.
Mr Mathias Mwesigwa , a resident of kebsioni town council in Rukungiri district welcomed Lukwago ‘s message of voting out NRM party flag bearers saying that he is not happy with the with continued arrest of Dr Besigye .
” If all people in Rukungiri were like they wouldn’t have voted Mr Museveni again as the president because he has done nothing apart from arresting our son Dr Kizza Besigye.”Mr Mwesigwa said.
The arrest of Dr Besigye and other political prisoners.
On 16th.November 2024, Besigye was arrested, in Nairobi, Kenya, alongside his aide, Obeid Lutale.
Apparently Dr Besigye and Lutaale are rooting in Jail at Luzira Prison on charges of treachery and unlawful possession of firearms.
Prosecution alleges that between February 2023 and November 2024, the two held meetings in Geneva, Athens, and Nairobi, where they reportedly sought logistical support and identified military targets in Uganda to undermine the Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF).
While Opposition activist Sam Mugumya was allegedly abducted on August 26 2025 by plain-clothed armed men from a local hotel in Nyamitanga, Mbarara City. Since then, efforts to trace his whereabouts have hit a snag.
During his campaign visit to Rukungiri district on 24th November 2026, President Yoweri Museveni kept silent about the arrest of Besigye and other political prisoners but instead asked people to embrace four-acre model as way of eradicating poverty.

The launching of the grassroot campaign which aims at strengthening the party in the district started transversing the Rukungiri town where party top leadership was seen waving at the party supporters.
According to the district party chairperson Mr Mugurara Aloysius “This campaign is part of our great Mobilisation strategies and it is aiming at reminding public about the existence of the new political party (PFF).
” We are informing the public that we no longer subscribe to FDC party.Am therefore asking you not to any from FDC party because we don’t score in the same goal posts” .He said .
