LIRA:

Hon. Justice Alex Mackey Ajiji delivered a judgement yesterday 22 February,  at Lira Court for Application No. 27 of 2016, awarding over 22 billion shillings after ruling in favor of the 5505 members of Lango Camp Host Association. The Lango Camp Host Association was represented by Makmot Kibwanga and Company Advocates.

Twelve members were physically present in court on behalf of the 5505 members during the judgement on Tuesday, February 21, 2023.

Executive Director Denis Oyite Hobly stated from the court premises that they started the struggle back in 2009 when he was still a university student, and now he is happy that each member will be paid 12.5 million shillings, totaling to over 22 billion shillings for all the members.

Mr. Joe Etii, the coordinator of the Lango Camp Host Association, expressed his satisfaction with the ruling, saying they are very happy and welcome everything that happened in the court ruling by Hon. Justice Alex Mackey.

Many people lost the fertility of their land when they hosted people in the internally displaced people camp, especially complainants from Lango Camp Host Association, who suffered around the early 2000s due to the LRA insurgency that lasted for almost 20 years in the northern part of Uganda.
