Kapchorwa landslides kill 14-yr-old, three hospitalised

Landslides Causing Death in Bugisu and Kapchorwa

A 14-year-old girl has been killed, several injured and property destroyed in landslides caused by torrential rains in Kapchorwa district.

The disaster that struck on Saturday afternoon killed Rael Chekwech, a P6 pupil of Sipi Primary School and left her twin sister Betra Chesuro injured. Chesuro was rushed to Kapchorwa Main Hospital for treatment.

Other survivors include Fisco Kissa, 12, Tressy Chemutai, 3, and Nusura Kokop, the grandmother to the deceased.

They were rushed to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital for further management.

The incident occurred in Ngangata village, Kongwo Parish, Kapsinda sub-county in Tingye County.

George Magunda the Kapchorwa Resident District Commissioner, said the disaster was triggered by the heavy rains that started on Friday evening.
