The State Minister of Finance (general duties) Henry Musasizi Ariganyira has told the public who were expecting for Kabale municipality to get a city status to forget those hopes.

He revealed this yesterday 12th February, while delivering a speech at his thanks giving that was held at St Mary’s cathedral Rushorooza located at Rushorooza hill in Kabale municipality.

Musasizi explained that the city resolution failed because the finance committee had advised the president about the negative effects of city saying that it only brings expenses.

He added that the city needs other Members of Parliament, Lord Mayors taxes of which it doesn’t bring income to both the country and residents of Kabale and Kigezi at large.

“President Museveni told us to inform the public to focus on working hard as a way of developing their household incomes and to engage themselves in the government programs such as parish development model and to get government loans for small scale business funds than creating new administrations that does not help in generating income in their pockets” He added.

On September 7, 2022, The Kabale Municipality Member of Parliament Dr Nichols Thaddeus Kamara expressed concern over delays in consultations of Kabale city boundaries.

Kabale district was among the 15 districts the cabinet approved to have a city status In May 2019 in a phased manner.

In the first lot, Arua, Gulu, Jinja, Fort portal and Mbarara would be elevated to city status, in the second cohort, Hoima and Mbale in 2021, while Lira and Entebbe will be in the third lot of elevation. Others are Nakasongola, Moroto, Masaka, Soroti, Kabale and Wakiso.

According to Dr Kamara, Bahati’s boundary covers Kitumba, along the Road up to katuna leaving out Nyakyijumba, Muyumbu, Kagora, Konyo, and Kabuura

The second version is the Keihwa version where the whole District is made the city.

MP Kamara questioned whether the new council had discussed it, accepted it, and approved it since the Keihwa version was in the old council regime of 2016-2021.

The third version is the Sentaro’s/ Kabale Municipality version which indicates going in the middle town and drawing something like a Saco to have new areas captured. Here, MP Kamara added that places like Lake Bunyonyi, Nyakyijumba, Konyo, shouldn’t be left out.

Nickolas Kamara further said that he has already written down his questions to the Prime Minister and another one to the local government and that he will not rest until consultations start in the district.
