Rukungiri – Residents of Nyakienego, Kirehe ,Kamuhogo and Rugando villages all in Nyakagyeme sub-County Rukungiri district are excited following the commissioning of 9.2 Kilometer community access road that will ease transportation of their produces to market centers.
This road will not only help in transportation of agricultural produces but also in Linking community to service providing centers like health centers, hospitals, schools, churches among others.
The scope of work includes general clearance, heavy grading and drainage channel building.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony for the rehabilitation of this road a function that took place at Kirehe trading center in Nyakienego parish Nyakagyeme sub-County Rukungiri district early this week, Isaac Kaharuza ,the political Assistant to security minister Rtd.Maj. Jim Muhwezi revealed that the road will be rehabilitated at a tune of shs.21 M by the Rujumbura county member of Parliament Hon.Jim K Muhwezi.
He also urged residents to take good use of the road once completed asking them to freely give in their land for road expansion.

Fred Twiziregye a resident of Kamuhogo cell stated that the road works come at a critical time when farmers have for a long time struggled to sell their commodities due to the poor road network.
“The rehabilitation of this road is a great relief because we have been spending alot of money when transporting our coffee to processing centers due to poor state of the road. As a farmer I thank our mp for this support ” Mr Twiziregye said.
Bernard Bineoburamu, The village chairperson of Kishanda 2 noted that the road will not only boost production and market access but also significantly improve access to healthcare, particularly for expectant mothers who have struggled with the poor road conditions.
“It has been a tag of war more especially when it could come at a time of transporting patients and expectant mothers but with this renovation, the situation is going to change.Abig thanks to our minister Jim K Muhwezi ” Mr Bineoburamu said.
The Nyakagyeme sub-County Lc3 chairperson Godson Mubangizi says the community access road will connect the
Nyakienego parish to Kigaaga parish and Buyanja sub-county through Omwirwaniro trading center.
“The rehabilitation of this community access road is meant to facilitate the movement of people, farming goods to markets and provision of agricultural extension services to rural communities which will in turn enhance food security, increase incomes and reduce vulnerability among the population” Mr Mubangizi said.
Rukungiri District has a total road network of approximately 345.81km of road network, 122.17km of Urban Road Network, while 845.07km of Community Access Road network..
