Rukungiri- The Bishop of North Kigezi diocese in Rukungiri district has called upon parents to also invest in the education of a boy child saying that a lot has been done on girls a move that has seen the boy child left to manoeuvre his way out.
“Before they are men, they are first boys and we have to raise and prepare the boy-child to support the women in contributing to development bishop Onesmus said during an exclusive interview with our reporter about the official opening of schools for 1st term which took place in his office at the diocesan headquarters at Kinyasano hill in western division Rukungiri municipality.
“You have only consecrated the education of your girls leaving boys behind. It is good to educate but remember that educated girls need educated boys to marry them so I advise you to consider the education of boys also’’ . Bishop Onesmus said.

Bishop Onesmus added that “Give attention to the boy child as well to produce well-moulded husbands for our girls in the future. It doesn’t sound right to give attention to only girls and after all the energy spent, they go meet the poorly brought up husbands. Therefore educate them also.’’
The bishop also cautioned teachers against absenting themselves from their work stations saying that this habit affects the performance of learners yet they are paid to do the work of teaching.
‘’You are paid to work and there must be accountability and a valve for money. You may claim that money is little but remember you are teachers and you must fill the obligation of teaching. It is very disappointing that there are some teachers who absent themselves from work stations without permission from their supervisors and at the end of the month you find them demanding money which they have not worked for’’ Bishop Onesmus said.
Bishop Onesmus used the same platform and asked school going children to consecrate more and focus on their studies if they are to be responsible citizens in future.
‘’ You must concentrate on your studies if you want to become responsible citizens in future. Failure to do so will affect your entire life. I therefore ask to study, pray to Your God and leave the rest in His hands’’. Bishop Onesmus told learners.
Relatedly, the Rukungiri municipal council senior inspector of schools Ms Musiimenta Juliet asked the parents to allow their children report their respective schools saying that timely reporting allows teachers to conduct their lessons smoothly.
‘’ Let me take this honor and inform you parents that schools have officially opened today 10th.Febuary 2026 for 1st term. We have had a long holiday so let all learners report back to their respective schools because very soon we are going to start counting all learners in government schools. So let them go to their school so that they don’t miss out’’ Ms Musiimenta said.
At Kinyasano day and boarding primary school, the school head teacher Mr Benard Tumusangye said pupils turn up is average asking parents to allow children to report back to school and study.
‘’ We have received over 1000 pupils on the first day. All teachers are present and I therefore want parents to bring their children back to school so that they don’t miss it because we have already started teaching as usual ’’. Mr Tumusangye said.
