Kabale University awards scholarships to needy students in Kigezi region.

“The deadline for applicants seeking to study under the scholarship program however was set for September 9,2021.”

 Students who come from poor backgrounds but hail from one of the six districts of Kigezi region can apply for scholarships, Kabale University has announced.

According to a document signed by the university academic registrar on September 7, 2021, those seeking to study under the Kabale University Kigezi region scholarship for the academic year 2021/2022 must hail from either Rubanda, Rukiga, Kisoro, Kanungu, Kabale and Rukungiri districts.

“They must also have attended both O’level and A’level studies in schools located in their home districts and applications must be endorsed by LC1, LC3 chairpersons and headteachers of their A’level school,” the academic registrar said.

The document which landed in the public domain had many questioning why the scholarships were only limited to needy students in Kigezi region.

The academic registrar, Narcicir Tibenderana, did not pick his known mobile phone numbers to respond to some of the queries.

However, Prof Joy Kwesiga the Kabale University Vice Chancellor disowned the document saying she had not seen it. “I have not seen it. I do not know what you are referring to. If I see it I will comment,” Kwesiga said.

The deadline for applicants seeking to study under the scholarship program however was set for September 9,2021.

Other requirements include being capable of paying functional fees and catering for personal living expenses since the sponsorship covers tuition fees only.

“The application favours girls and applicants must also be admissible to one of the following bachelor’s degree programmes; anaesthesia and critical care medicine, medicine and surgery, nursing science, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, environmental science, agriculture, agriculture and land use management, information technology, computer science, science with education, environmental health sciences, agribusiness,” the academic registrar noted.

They must also have passed A’level with at least two principal passes and O’level with at least five passes and should have completed A’level studies not more than three years prior to the year of admission or application.
