Police speak out on YY bus accident, confirm pedestrian death

Uganda Police on Friday confirmed a 70-year-old pedestrian, John Kabanda, succumbed to injuries he sustained as a result of a morning accident between YY bus and a Fuso truck on Jinja road.

Kabanda died at Naguru Hospital while the other victims, including both drivers and one passenger in the Fuso truck, are in critical condition.

Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire noted that territorial Police at Jinja Road was investigating the accident that turned fatal on Friday at around 5:42 am at City Oil Petro Station along Jinja Road.

“The accident involved a motor vehicle UAV 205 X Isuzu bus belonging to YY Bus Company and motor vehicle UAR 392E Fuso Fighter, blue in colour”.

He noted that during the investigation, “the scene was visited by our team of officers and preliminary investigations have indicated that the driver of the Fuso while driving recklessly by trying to overtake an unknown motor vehicle, ended up colliding with the bus.

Owoyesigyire said both Motor vehicles have been towed to Jinja Road parking yard pending inspection.
