Property worth millions of shillings burnt in Kabale town

The Police in Kabale district in Western Uganda were Wednesday investigating fire that broke out at dawn and destroyed property worth millions of shillings.

The incident occurred at around 04:50am in Bugongi Road Cell, Lower Bugongi in the Northern Division in Kabale municipality.

The police established that the fire started at about 4:50am and burnt to ashes property and caused a lot of damage to a timber workshop belonging to Margaret Kaganza, a prominent businesswoman and timber dealer in Kabale town.

The property burnt included a structure, four machines, power saws, woodworks and timber among others.

But according to Kigezi region police spokesman Elly Maate, the police fire brigade team, led by the District Police Commander ASP Mohammad Byansi arrived in time at the scene and stopped the fire, preventing further damage and from spreading to neighbouring structures.

He said that police had opened enquiries on file Ref. KLE SD REF 03/04/08/2021.

Maate, however, said no loss of life was recorded. Investigations commenced into the primary cause of the fire.
