The Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among, has granted Members of Parliament two weeks break to find out how the Emyooga funds were utilised in their constituencies.

The break will start from August 5 to August 17, 2021. Among made the announcement during the Tuesday plenary session.

The two weeks exercise, she said will allow MPs to ascertain how the Emyooga funds have been utilized, and to also find out what criteria was used for the distribution of the funds.
“We cannot start the implementation of the parish development model before we know how the Emyooga funds were used,” she said.
Launched in August 2019 by President Yoweri Museveni, the Emyooga programme is a sh260b presidential initiative programme on wealth and job creation that is aimed at transforming 68% of Ugandans, who are currently in subsistence to commercial orientation through savings.
The programme targets Ugandans especially in the informal sector who come together in form of SACCOs under 18 clusters including bodaboda riders, taxi drivers, restaurants, welders, market vendors, women entrepreneurs, youth leaders, people with disabilities, journalists, performing artists, carpenters, salon operators, tailors, Mechanics, produce dealers, veterans, fishermen and elected leaders.
Over sh100b Emyooga funds has so far been given to the beneficiaries since November last year when the Microfinance Support Centre Ltd started the disbursement process.
