NRM CEC fails to make decision on Speakership

KAARO KARUNGI | ENTEBBE —The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), the top organ, the Central Executive Committee (CEC) has failed to make a decision on the issue of Speakership of Parliament, party Secretary-General, Justine Lumumba Kasule has said.

Lumumba says the Committee resumes  this today morning to try and reach a decision before Caucus later in the day.

The meeting at State House Entebbe did not resolve on the question of Speakership but adjourned to today morning at 8am.

NRM Caucus (Members of Parliament) are also supposed to sit on Sunday at State House tomorrow to elect the Speaker in a primary election.

The election of the Speaker is scheduled for Monday next week at Kololo airstrip.
Over 300 MPs including the Deputy Leader of Government Business, Gen. Moses Ali have already declared support for Kadaga before the party decision.

In today’s meeting President Yoweri Museveni, who is the Chairman of the party, will call the meeting to order at 10:00AM.


It will be followed by the traditional singing of the National Anthem which has been allocated 5 minutes and meant to end at 10:05AM.

10:05AM-10:20AM is allocated for prayers to be followed by communication from the chair to last 40 minutes until 11:00AM.
NRM Electoral Commission will take charge from 11:00AM to specifically conduct the election for the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker of Parliament. The results will be declared by Tanga at 2:00PM.
