The Ministry of Mines in Uganda expressed satisfaction with the ongoing 6th Geita Mining and Technology Exhibition. They acquired new mining techniques at the Geita Gold Mine Ltd (GGML) pavilion.

Various stakeholders, including ministry officials, attended the event. Delegates learned how GGML uses modern technology in both underground and open pit mining.

Morris Tabaaro, Inspector of Mines in the Directorate of Geological Survey and Mines for Eastern Uganda, led the delegation. He stated that the Tanzanian mining industry offers valuable insights for neighbouring countries in safe and secure mining.

Their visit aimed to share experiences and gain knowledge about GGML’s methods in mineral exploration and mining, whether in open pits or underground.

Emmanuel Njabugeni, GGML’s Underground Long-Term Planning Engineer with over 15 years of mining experience, explained their safety-focused mining practices. He emphasized that GGML follows established guidelines to ensure the well-being of every employee.

Eng Njabugeni highlighted the exhibition’s role in educating stakeholders, particularly small-scale miners, on applying modern technologies to reduce mining costs and protect the environment. He mentioned their use of Studio UG software for underground mining.

Ugandan colleagues learned from GGML, which is the largest gold mine not only in Tanzania but also in East and Central Africa. GGML prioritizes technology and environmental conservation, sharing these practices with Ugandan peers.

Eng Njabugeni discussed their collaboration with research companies in Geita, such as Capital Mining Services, to analyze factors like gold prices, equipment costs, human resources, hole filling, and environmental safety to determine profitability.
