MITOOMA:
The long-awaited Mitooma-Kanshenshero-Rukungiri road is set to become a reality, as the government has announced that construction will commence in 2023. The project, which is expected to cost billions of shillings, will be jointly funded by the government and a consortium of private investors.
The 67-kilometer road, which will connect the districts of Mitooma, Kanshenshero, and Rukungiri, is expected to improve transport links in the region and boost economic growth. The road will also provide a safer and more efficient route for residents and visitors traveling between the three districts.

According to the project plan, construction will be carried out in three phases, with the first phase set to commence in early 2023. The first phase will involve the construction of a new road from Mitooma to Kanshenshero, with the road expected to be completed within two years. The second and third phases will involve the construction of the road from Kanshenshero to Rukungiri, with each phase expected to take an additional two years.
The road project is expected to generate employment opportunities for local communities and boost economic development in the region. However, there have been concerns raised by environmentalists about the potential impact of the road on the surrounding ecosystem, particularly as it passes through areas with sensitive ecological systems.
The government has assured local communities and environmentalists that measures will be taken to minimize the environmental impact of the road, including the establishment of buffer zones and the implementation of eco-friendly construction practices.
The construction of the Mitooma-Kanshenshero-Rukungiri road is expected to be a major milestone in the development of the region, and local communities are eagerly looking forward to the project’s completion.
