Two UPDF Officers Perish In The Malaba-Jinja High Way Accident

A fatal accident occured today, 29th Jan 2022 at around 03:30am on Malaba-Jinja high way in Tororo district claiming the lives of two UPDF officers.

The deceased were identified as Collins Amina Yanga and Johnson Tumwine Private both warrant officers ii and attached to the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA).The accident involved a motor vehicle registration number KCB 973X, a trailer registered with ZD5045 FAW and a toyota Hilux UBA 948S.

 Police post explaining about the road accident that happened today at Malaba-Jinja high way.

It is alleged that the deceased were resting in a parked hilux besides the road at the corner junction when a speeding trailer lost control over its container which hit the vehicle in which these officers were in. The driver of the trailer fled away from the scene at once.

Police confirmed the accident and said that investigations are still in place to understand the actual cause of this accident.
The deceased had been deployed at the corner junction to do the checking on all those tracks that came empty by channeling them to Lwakhakha border so as to give space for the customs agents to clear cargo trucks that should be entering Uganda from Malaba border.

The spokes person of Traffic Police Directorate of that area Miss Faridah Nampiima said the bodies of the deceased have been taken to Rubongi Army barracks mortuary for postmortem and examination.

She further told the drivers to be careful while on road. Over speeding puts one at a risk of ending life, destroying goods and other related losses, she said.

She added that if road rules are properly followed, together we can regulate road accidents to zero rates. Nampiima advised the major public especially those that use public roads to always park at a safe place not in a corner which confuses other drivers.
