National: Mr Godfrey Muwumuza, 43, a teacher at Kabojja Junior School in Kampala has been arrested for allegedly for a pupil to touch his private parts during a school’s your to western Uganda on 4th may 2025.
Mr Muwumuza, is accused of attempting to abuse a male pupil. According to court documents, Muwumuza asked the pupil for help with a torch, claiming he needed to find something in his suitcase. The pupil agreed, trusting the teacher.
When the pupil handed him the torch, Muwumuza allegedly grabbed the child’s hand and tried to make him touch his private parts. Fortunately, another pupil entered the room, interrupting the incident. Muwumuza pretended to be asleep and told the pupil to go to bed.
The victim quietly told his friend what had happened. However, the next day, as the group travelled back to Kampala, Muwumuza reportedly insisted on sitting next to the same pupil on the bus.
During the journey, he is said to have taken the boy’s hand, unzipped his trousers, and attempted to make him touch him inappropriately. This time, the child resisted and quickly changed seats.
The pupil borrowed a friend’s phone and informed his mother via WhatsApp about what had happened. The parent contacted the school immediately.
The school promised to investigate, but some administrators allegedly advised the mother not to involve the police, suggesting it could harm the school’s reputation. The mother, however, reported the matter to the authorities.
Quickly Police intervened and arrested Muwumuza and opened an investigation. Several pupils who were on the trip confirmed parts of the boy’s account.
On Friday last weeK, Muwumuza appeared before Buganda Road Chief Magistrate’s Court where he was charged with attempted aggravated homosexuality under the Anti-Homosexuality Act, 2023, the charges he denied.
The Magistrate had on option apart from remanding him in prison until May 19, 2025, when the court will consider his bail application.
The school declined to issue an official statement, saying they cannot comment while the matter is before court.
