Rwenzururu King Charles Wesley Mumbere Iremangoma has appealed to the people of Kasese District, especially politicians, to work towards fostering peace, security, unity, and coexistence. His call for unity came during a thanksgiving service held at St. Paul Cathedral in South Rwenzori Diocese over the weekend.

King Mumbere expressed concern that some politicians were sowing division within the kingdom and its people for their own self-serving interests. He strongly discouraged such divisive actions and made it clear that individuals seeking favors from him to project themselves as clean should not approach the palace.

Addressing misconceptions, the King clarified that some parties had misrepresented the kingdom to the government, falsely portraying animosity towards other ethnic groups in the Rwenzori Sub-region. He also shed light on the issue of Yira state, attributing past confusion with the central government to internal disruptions caused by what he referred to as “traitors” within the kingdom.

In relation to the events of 2016, King Mumbere stated that false allegations had falsely suggested the kingdom’s involvement in a secession plot from Uganda. He emphasized that even if the kingdom had contemplated establishing a separate state, they would not have chosen the name “Yira” for it. Furthermore, he pointed out that if secession had been his genuine intention, he would have left the kingdom and mobilized supporters outside rather than remaining within it.

The King also appealed to those he labeled as “traitors” to come forward and collaborate with the kingdom before providing the central government with false information. He urged the central government to seek clear information from them before planning any military operations, referencing past conflicts.

King Mumbere disclosed that he had engaged with President Museveni on strategies for promoting peace and development in the sub-region before his return on October 4. Additionally, Queen Agnes Ithungu Asimawe announced her plans to revive the Rwenzururu Nyabaghole Development Foundation, with a focus on mentoring young girls in various aspects, including reproductive health.
