Over 600 Journalists Had An Interactive Session With President Museveni On Socio-Economic Transformation

The president of the Republic of Uganda H.E Gen.Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has commended over 600 journalists from their body-Uganda Journalists association-UJA who attended the 6-days state and media solidarity training on socio-economic transformation.

Museveni had an interactive session with a group of journalists as he closed the six days symposium residential training program on the 11th February 2023 at Kyambogo University Grounds on Socioeconomic transformation.

He encouraged journalists to familiarize themselves with the vision of socio–economic transformation with science knowledge and technology.

Mr Museveni also promised to support journalists’ Sacco regionally and tasked journalists to be messengers of wealth creation to make Ugandan families get out of poverty to join the money economy.

“For us, our strategic goals in public affairs are; prosperity for all the people, strategic security and emphasizing the fraternity of the African people not tribes or religion,” Gen Museveni added.

Mr.Museveni said that politics should be about solving the needs of the people which are the same and not diverting them into things which have no value addition to them.

“For us (NRM) we said being in public affairs you must be clear why you’re there. If you don’t know, stay in your house and confuse your family only. Even you journalists, don’t involve yourselves in public matters if you don’t know,” the President warns.

The Vice president Jesica Alupo at the opening remark tasked journalists to focus on growth and socio-economic transformation The Deputy Chief of Defense Forces Lt Gen Peter Elwelu has urged journalists to always be professional and refrain from the temptation of spreading misinformation and propaganda which could cause chaos in Uganda.
“Don’t believe in lies and propaganda, you journalists. If you were indeed spreading positive messages to our people, we would not have had the deaths of people during the 2009 Kayunga riots and the November 2020 riots,” Gen Elwelu told over 600 journalists gathered at Kyambogo university ground.

Ms Hellen Sseko, the private secretary to H.E. the president on youth affairs while addressed hundreds of journalists before the president yarn for correct and accurate information.

She however requested journalists to fight the culture of corruption now common among some government officials in various offices.

The Minister of ICT Chris Byanomunsi, said when the NRM government came to power in 1986, there was only one radio station, Radio Uganda now UBC and a single TV Station but now we have 320 radio stations, several TV stations and 53 universities across the country employing and educating the masses.
