NSSF Manager Found Guilty of Embezzling Funds

The National Social Security Fund (NSSF) relations manager in charge of the suspense account, Joseph Sooka, has been sentenced to serve 16 years in prison after the Anti-Corruption Court found him guilty of embezzling sh152m.

The manager, who was in charge of managing the fund’s relationship with various stakeholders, was accused of siphoning off millions of dollars from the NSSF over a period of several years.

According to the prosecution, the manager used various means to embezzle the funds, including inflating expenses, creating fake contracts, and diverting funds to personal accounts. The embezzlement came to light during an internal audit, which revealed irregularities in the fund’s accounts.

After a lengthy trial, the manager was convicted of embezzlement and sentenced to a term of imprisonment. The court also ordered to compensate NSSF the full sum of sh152m. He has further been barred from holding a public office for 10 years.

The NSSF has expressed its disappointment and regret over the incident, stating that it takes the matter of fraud and corruption very seriously. The organization has pledged to implement stricter measures to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.

The conviction of the Relations Manager highlights the importance of maintaining strict oversight and accountability in the management of public funds. It also serves as a warning to other public officials that the consequences of embezzlement and corruption can be severe.

The case was prosecuted by chief state attorney Harriet Angom from the Office of the Directorate of Public Prosecution.
