Rukungiri – The minister of Security Rtd Maj Gen Jim K Muhwezi who doubles as the Rujumbura county member of Parliament yesterday implemented the presidential directive by participating in the NRM party’s grassroots structures that took place yesterday across the country.
On 5th may 2025, President Museveni temporarily suspended cabinet and parliamentary sessions to enable National Resistance Movement (NRM) members to participate in the party’s upcoming grassroots elections.

In a statement issued on Sunday 5th May 2025, Museveni announced the suspension of Monday’s cabinet meeting and asked the speaker of parliament, Anita Among, to halt Tuesday’s plenary session to allow ministers and Members of Parliament to take part in the exercise.
To have this directive fully implemented, the Rukungiri district NRM party chairperson Rtd Maj Gen Jim K Muhwezi participated in this event that took place across the 831 villages of Rukungiri district.
On the village committee of Kagunga cell, the village of Minister Muhwezi, the minister was elected as UPDF Veterans representative at the village level thanking them for trusting him with their votes promising to continue supporting them whenever a need arises.
Speaking to the media people after the elections, Minister Muhwezi said that the most of the candidates were unopposed, an indicator that signifies the strength of NRM party in Rukungiri district.
The Rukungiri district resident commissioner, Mr Nsubuga Bewayo Stephen, the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Rukungiri said they did not deploy security personnel at polling stations because the situation was normal and there was no need.

The RDC also urged people to always participate in electing their leaders if they are to get services they desire in near future.
The Rukungiri district NRM party elections officer Jackson Kizza Mugarura said the process went well with an average voter turnout.
Mr Mugarura hailed the NRM party members for their active participation in these elections.
