National – The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Elections Tribunal yesterday 14th August, 2025 cleared Minister Muhwezi for Rujumbura county parliamentary seat in the coming 2026 general elections by upholding his victory as the party’s official flag bearer for Rujumbura County in Rukungiri district.
Minister Muhwezi who is Uganda’s security minister and the Rujumbura county member of Parliament was cleared by the NRM party tribunal following the dismissal of the petition that was filed by his political rival Frank Arinitwe Rukanirwa.
Addressing media shortly after the ruling, Minister Muhwezi expressed gratitude to the party leadership and voters, pledging to unite supporters ahead of the 2026 general elections.
“This victory is not mine alone it belongs to all the people of Rujumbura County who believe in progress and service,” he said.
The decision clears the way for minister Muhwezi to represent the NRM in the upcoming 2026 general elections, setting the stage for a potentially heated contest for the Rujumbura County parliamentary seat.
