A recent senior six graduate, Ruth Ainembabazi, and her mother, Frascisco Bashaba, were discovered lifeless in their residence at Nsiika cell, Ntura parish in Mbarara District on January 6, 2024. The incident has led to the detention of three suspects, including the victims’ husband and father, Deus Musinguzi, the 25-year-old stepson Julius Ainemukama, and the 50-year-old co-wife Rosemary Kyohairwe.
The investigation unfolded as police detectives pieced together information suggesting that the mother and daughter were last seen alive on the night of January 5, 2024. Bashaba, a peasant, had visited her brother in Nsiika cell alongside Ainembabazi. During their visit, Bashaba received a phone call from her husband, Musinguzi, with whom she was reportedly having strained relations. Subsequently, the mother-daughter duo returned to their home and tragically vanished from public view.
The disconcerting discovery was made on January 6, 2024, when concerned residents decided to check on the victims. Shockingly, both Ainembabazi and Bashaba were found dead, their heads brutally smashed with a blunt object. Police spokesperson Fred Enanga shared these distressing details, pointing to an apparent act of violence.
The motive behind this heinous crime is believed to be rooted in existing family conflicts. The strained relations within the family led to the arrest of Musinguzi, the estranged husband, and the two other family members, Ainemukama and Kyohairwe. All three are now in police custody as investigations continue.
This incident follows closely on the heels of other occurrences, with police detectives in Apac and Sironko Districts investigating two separate machete attacks that claimed the lives of two women.
