KAARO KARUNGI | MBARARA – Nyakishara airdrome Mbarara located in south western Uganda is to be upgraded to an international airport.
The construction works that will expand the landing strip to 3 km from 1.6 km shall be executed by the China State Construction Engineering Corporation NSCEC in partnership with Base 7 International Aviation Academy the contractor of the project on behalf of the government of Uganda.

According to Ham Kamuntu the Director General of Base 7 International Aviation Academy says their role is to provide the land and infrastructure on behalf of the government of Uganda.
A Chinese construction company team identified as China State
Construction Engineering Corporation NSCEC visited and appreciated the strategic location of the planned airport and promised to start the reconstruction and expansion of Nyakisharara airdrome Mbarara to an international airport after making a memorandum of understanding with the government.
The Chinese team was led in the tour by the former Mayor Mbarara
Wilson Tumwine witnessed by the Mbarara City Clerk Tibihika
Theophelous with his technical team and the Senior Marketing Manager China State Construction Engineering Corporation NSCEC Mr Konal,Xu.
